1. The working principle of wet EFB biomass pellet processing equipment

(1) Pretreatment unit - solve the problem of "EFB morphology and fiber toughness". EFB is hard, with long fibers and strong toughness. Directly entering the drying or molding equipment will cause blockage and soaring energy consumption. It must first pass through the pretreatment equipment "crushing-crushing" to convert it into fine and uniform raw materials to prepare for subsequent drying and pelletizing.

(2) Drying process - solve the problem of "high moisture content". Wet EFB (if directly compressed, it will cause the pellets to be easily moldy after molding and have low strength. The moisture cannot be discharged during the compression process, causing the pellets to crack). The core of drying is to reduce the moisture content of EFB to 10%-15% (the optimal moisture content for molding). The commonly used equipment is "drum dryer".

(3) Pelletizing process - solve the problem of "EFB compressed into pellets" The dried EFB (moisture content 10%-15%) needs to be converted into high-density (1.1-1.3g/cm³) and easy-to-store biomass pellets through "extrusion molding". The core equipment is the ring die pelletizer (the molding equipment most suitable for EFB high fiber characteristics).

2. Characteristics of wet EFB biomass pellet processing equipment

The wet EFB pellet processing equipment (i.e., the wood biomass pellet machine and supporting production line) is specifically designed to process wood materials such as EFB, sawdust, bamboo, and branches into high-density pellets.

It is compatible with a wide range of wood materials: EFB, sawdust, wood chips, wood shavings, bamboo shavings, shredded branches, and waste wood. After pre-processing (crushing and grinding), both softwoods (such as pine and fir) and hardwoods (such as oak and birch) can be efficiently processed.

Controlling raw material moisture fluctuations: Dedicated drying equipment (such as a drum dryer) controls the raw material moisture content to 10%-15% (the optimal moisture range for wood pellet production), avoiding problems such as clogging and loose pellets caused by excessive moisture.

Flexible particle size control: The accompanying crusher and pulverizer can reduce the raw material to the size of sawdust, meeting the pellet machine's fineness requirements and ensuring uniform pellets.

3. Application scenarios of wet EFB biomass pellet processing equipment

(1) Small and medium-sized industrial enterprises: including factories in industries such as food processing, textiles, chemicals, and building materials that require stable heat supply. The production processes of these enterprises (such as food drying, textile printing and dyeing heating, building materials maintenance, etc.) require continuous consumption of heat energy. Although the calorific value of wet EFB pellets (14-18MJ/kg) is lower than that of coal, its carbon emissions are only one-tenth of fossil fuels, and its sulfur and nitrogen emissions are extremely low, which meets the requirements of environmental protection policies. Enterprises can introduce equipment (or purchase pellets from surrounding processing points) and use pellets as boiler fuel to reduce dependence on natural gas and coal and control energy costs.

(2) Biomass energy-related places: including small and medium-sized biomass power plants, biomass heating stations, etc. Biomass power plants require fuel with "regular shape and stable moisture content" (bulk material transportation efficiency is low and combustion is unstable). Wet EFB processing equipment can process the purchased wet EFB raw materials into pellets. How to use the TONY pellet production line to make pellets from wet EFB?

The process mainly includes the following steps and equipment:

1. Use TONY comprehensive chipper to grind EFB Into 25-55mm palm fiber.

A. This process is mainly used to storage the palm dust that comes out of the hammer mill.It is hydraulic galvanized storage bin which is more stalbe and palm dust in it is not easy to be blocked.

The customer chooses TONY Brand Large Hydraulic Storage Silo to storage the palm dust  that comes out of  the hammer mill.This process can be optional by customer.If customer do not chose the storage bin,he can storage the palm dust on the ground directly which may need some labour.

4.Wet Palm Dust Drying Process:

A.This process is mainly used to dry the palm dust  from 40% to 10-15%.

Palm fruit bunches are made into pellets

Why are palm fruit bunches made into pellets? Can't we put palm biomass directly into boilers or power plants? The reasons are as follows:

1. In general, after the conversion of palm fruit biomass into particles, its energy content will increase.

2.The caloric value of 4,200-4,900 kg cal/kg 28 palm pellet fuel or briquette can be used to replace coal to relieve energy pressure and environmental pressure.

Advantages of Wet EFB Biomass Pellets

Processing wet EFB into biomass pellets not only offers numerous advantages in terms of environmental protection, economic and social development, and improving the energy structure, but also boasts excellent combustion performance. The main advantages are as follows:

1. Calorific Value and Combustion Residues

The calorific value and ash content of wet EFB biomass pellets after combustion are approximately 10% lower than those of medium-quality coal. However, wet EFB biomass pellets burn completely under normal operating conditions. Coal, on the other hand, burns incompletely, leaving residual ash containing 10% to 15% combustible components. Therefore, in practical applications, the effective calorific value of the two is comparable.

2. Combustibility

Wet EFB biomass pellets have better ignition properties than coal. They ignite easily, significantly reducing the ignition time required for combustion.

3. Solid Emissions

Wet EFB biomass pellets have significantly lower solid emissions than coal. This not only reduces slag disposal costs but also reduces environmental pollution. Solid emissions from wet EFB biomass pellets are primarily ash, accounting for approximately 0.4% to 7.0% of the total weight. In contrast, coal combustion produces solid emissions consisting of a mixture of ash, alkali, and unburned coal, accounting for approximately 25% to 40% of the total weight.

4. Air Pollution and Corrosion

Coal causes significantly higher levels of air pollution and boiler corrosion than wet EFB biomass pellets. Coal smoke contains a large amount of particulate carbon as well as toxic and corrosive gases such as sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide. Wet EFB biomass pellets are primarily composed of C-H organic matter, and their flue gas contains no particulate carbon or sulfur dioxide. Instead, it consists primarily of C-H volatile gases, with virtually no sulfur dioxide or carbon monoxide. When burned, the smoke color is below Ringelmann Class 1, significantly reducing air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, making wet EFB biomass pellets an internationally recognized "clean fuel."

5. Cost and Time Savings

Compared to coal combustion, using wet EFB biomass pellets as boiler fuel can save costs and time. For example, using wet EFB biomass pellets for a 0.5-ton boiler reduces fuel costs by 11% and operating time by 34% compared to coal combustion. For example, a 0.5-ton boiler can reduce fuel costs by 10% and operating time by 16%.

6. Continuous Combustion

Wet EFB biomass pellets typically burn 8 to 10 times longer than soft bulk materials, maintaining a stable and continuous combustion state, ensuring a more reliable energy supply.
