1. The working principle of wet EFB biomass pellet processing equipment

The core molding process uses the pellet machine roller extrusion to force the crushed EFB material into the ring die hole of the mold. The high temperature in the mold (60-90℃ generated by extrusion friction) softens the lignin (acting as a natural adhesive, without the need for additional adhesives), and finally extrudes it into cylindrical pellets (usually 6-8mm in diameter and 10-30mm in length).

2. Characteristics of wet EFB biomass pellet processing equipment

(1) Drying equipment: high heat exchange efficiency, anti-sticking, flexible adjustment of material residence time according to EFB humidity to ensure drying uniformity

(2) Crushing equipment: high speed, strong shearing, suitable for coarse fibers, can repeatedly impact EFB coarse fibers to avoid the problem of "unbreakable and entangled hammer pieces"

(3) Pelletizing equipment: wear-resistant ring die + high extrusion strength to activate lignin. How to use the TONY pellet production line to make pellets from wet EFB?

The process mainly includes the following steps and equipment:

1. Use TONY comprehensive chipper to grind EFB Into 25-55mm palm fiber.  

2. Use TONY effective hammer mill to crush the 25-55 mm palm fiber into 8-14 mm palm dust.If customer has enough Investment budget,he can also chose TONY special cutting machine for palm silk which will be more expensive than the hammer mill.

3. Use TONY rotary drum dryer to dry the palm dust with a 40% moisture content down to a moisture content of 10%-15%.

4. Use TONY vertical ring die pellet machine to produce pellets with a diameter of 6-8 mm.

5. Use TONY galvanized pellets cooler to cool the pellets from 80-90°C to 20-30°C.

6. Use TONY double packing machine to pack the pellets into bags, each weighing 15-50 kg.

3.Wet Palm Dust Drying Process:

A.This process is mainly used to dry the palm dust  from 40% to 10-15%.

B.Capacity:5.5-6.5 Ton/Hour.

C.TONY use 1 set of 1.8*24m  rotary drum dryer for this process, TONY hot blast stove is made of firebrick pan, shell with H steel plate as the frame.   There are 3 layers of fire blocking device inside, which can effectively prevent the fire from entering the tumble dryer.Customers can choose to use waste wood, biomass pellets, natural gas, etc. as fuel for the hot air furnace

Raw material basis for EFB biomass pellet processing projects

1. Stable Source and Low Cost: EFB is a core waste product of palm oil processing. Every ton of palm fruit processed produces approximately 0.2-0.25 tons of fresh EFB (60%-75% moisture). The raw material supply is extremely abundant.

2. Procurement Method: Primarily purchased from palm oil mills. In many cases, to avoid contamination from EFB stockpiles, mills will provide EFB for free or at a low price. Mills only cover transportation costs, with a recommended transportation radius of ≤30 kilometers to control costs.

3. Raw Material Characteristics: Contains cellulose (40%-45%), hemicellulose (25%-30%), and lignin (15%-20%). Lignin acts as a natural binder, eliminating the need for artificial binders in pelleting, reducing processing costs.

1. Environmental Protection

Low Emissions: Biomass pellet fuel is primarily composed of C-H organic matter. Particulate carbon and SO₂ gases are absent from flue gas, resulting in near-zero SO₂ and CO emissions. The smoke is low in color, significantly reducing air pollution and CO₂ emissions. In contrast, the combustion of traditional fuels such as coal produces large quantities of harmful gases such as particulate carbon, SO₂, and CO, causing serious atmospheric pollution.

Low Solid Emissions: Biomass pellet fuel produces far fewer solid emissions than traditional fuels such as coal. Solid emissions from biomass pellet fuel are entirely ash, accounting for approximately 0.4% to 7.0% of the total weight. In contrast, solid emissions from coal combustion are a mixture of ash, alkali, and residual coal, accounting for approximately 25% to 40% of the total weight.

2. Economical

Saves on Fuel Costs: Biomass pellet fuel has a calorific value comparable to coal in practice, but because it burns out easily, reducing fuel waste, it offers certain cost advantages. Furthermore, the price of biomass pellet fuel is relatively stable, helping to reduce production costs for businesses. Reduced Labor Costs: Biomass pellets are highly pure, easy to process, and the raw materials are clean and hygienic, ensuring no environmental pollution, thus reducing labor costs.

3. Sustainability

Renewable: Biomass pellet fuel is derived from renewable biomass resources such as crop straw and forestry waste. These resources are environmentally friendly. In contrast, traditional fuels such as coal are non-renewable, and their extraction and use can have long-term environmental impacts.

Promoting Recycling: The ash from burning biomass pellet fuel can be used as fertilizer, promoting new plant growth and entering a new cycle, ensuring a continuous supply of biomass resources.
