1. The working principle of dried wood pallets biomass pellet processing equipment
The pelletizing equipment is the core of the entire production line. Its principle is to use "mechanical extrusion + lignin softening" to compress loose fine wood chips into high-density pellets with a circular cross-section (diameter 6-12mm, commonly 8mm) and a length of 3-10mm. The key lies in the ring die pelletizer (mainstream equipment in the industry)
(1) Feeding and pre-pressing: The fine wood chips that meet the standards are evenly fed into the pelletizing chamber by the feeding agitator. The feed plate in the chamber distributes the wood chips to the gap between the ring die and the pressure roller (the ring die is a circular steel die with uniform small holes, and the pressure roller is 2-3 rotatable cylindrical rollers. The ring die is fixed and the pressure roller is driven by the ring die to rotate);
(2) High-pressure extrusion: The pressure roller rotates at high speed under the friction of the ring die (ring die speed 15-30r/min), forcibly pressing the wood chips into the small holes of the ring die - at this time, the extrusion pressure can reach 50-150MPa. The loose wood chips are compressed under high pressure and their volume is reduced to their original size. 1/5-1/3, the density is increased to 1.1-1.3g/cm³ (much higher than the raw material 0.2-0.5g/cm³);
(3) Lignin bonding: During the extrusion process, the friction heat generated by high pressure (temperature can reach 80-120℃) will soften and melt the lignin (natural adhesive) in the wood chips, wrapping the cellulose and hemicellulose particles; when the material is extruded from the ring die holes, the temperature drops and the lignin re-solidifies, firmly bonding the wood chips together to form cylindrical particles with stable structure;
Pelletizing: The cutter (adjustable position) on the outside of the ring die cuts the extruded continuous particles into set lengths (3-10mm), completing the pelletizing process
2. Characteristics of dried wood pallets biomass pellet processing equipment
(1) Material compatibility:
The core crushing and pelletizing equipment (such as hammer mills and ring die pelletizers) can process all types of wooden pallets (including solid wood pallets, plywood pallets, and compressed wood pallets). There is no need to strictly classify the raw materials, and only pre-treatment is required to remove metal impurities.
(2) Durability of vulnerable parts:
The hammers of the crushing equipment and the ring die/roller of the pelletizer are made of high-hardness alloy materials (such as 65Mn steel and Cr12MoV steel). After heat treatment, the wear resistance is improved. The service life of the hammer can reach 100-200 hours, and the service life of the ring die can reach 500-1000 hours, which reduces the frequency of equipment shutdown and part replacement and ensures production continuity.

During the production process, the dust in the drying stage is recovered (re-pelletized) through the cyclone separator, and the crushed powder in the screening stage is recycled, without any waste of raw materials; when the equipment is in operation, no wastewater is discharged.
(4) Easy to operate:
The production line is equipped with a touch screen control system. Key parameters can be set through the interface with one click. Workers can operate independently after 1-2 weeks of training without professional technical background.
(5) Low maintenance cost:
The equipment structure is modular (for example, the crushing chamber of the crusher and the granulating chamber of the granulator can be disassembled separately). Daily maintenance (cleaning the screen, replacing the hammer, lubricating the bearing) can be completed by only 2-3 people, without the need for a professional maintenance team. How to ensure the stability and sustainability of the raw material supply chain for pallet pellet projects?
Dry pallets are the core raw material, and their supply stability directly determines the life and death of the project. Raw material sustainability must be achieved through "multiple channels + resource expansion + cost lock-in":
1. Establish a diversified recycling network to avoid single dependence
(1) Sign long-term recycling agreements with local and surrounding logistics parks, manufacturing factories, and e-commerce warehousing companies (such as waste wooden pallets in the home appliance, furniture, and machinery industries), clarify the recycling price, frequency, and quality standards (such as no mold, no heavy metal pollution, no chemical coating), and avoid the interruption of raw material supply due to the loss of a single customer.
(2) Expand "supplementary raw material" channels: If the supply of some pallets is insufficient, other agricultural and forestry waste (such as sawdust, straw, and branches) can be used in combination. By optimizing the formula (such as dry pallet fragments accounting for 60%-80%, mixed sawdust improves formability), the dependence on a single raw material can be reduced, while meeting the raw material standards of biomass pellets.
2. Control raw material costs and transportation radius
(1) Raw material transportation costs usually account for 15%-25% of the total cost. The recycling radius needs to be controlled within 50-100 kilometers (adjusted according to the regional raw material density) to avoid long-distance transportation resulting in excessive costs.
(2) Agree on a "tiered price" with raw material suppliers: when the monthly recycling volume reaches a certain scale, give price discounts; or sign a "long-term fixed price agreement" to avoid the cost risks brought by fluctuations in wood raw material prices (such as the increase in pallet recycling prices during the peak season).
3. Establish a raw material reserve and pretreatment system
(1) Build a standardized raw material warehouse (ventilated, moisture-proof, and fire-proof) to reserve at least 1-2 months of raw material consumption to cope with the surge in demand during the peak season or sudden recycling interruptions (such as factory shutdowns and epidemic control).
(2) Add a "sorting + impurity removal" process in the pretreatment stage: remove impurities in the dry pallet by manual or mechanical means (such as magnetic separators to remove nails, vibrating screens to remove mud and sand) to avoid damage to subsequent pelletizing equipment and improve the purity of pellet fuel (reducing ash content).

1. Resource Recycling: Addressing the "Waste" Pain Point, Reducing Costs, and Protecting the Environment
Pallets (especially wooden pallets) are common consumables in the logistics and warehousing industries. The indiscriminate disposal or incineration of large quantities of used pallets (such as damaged or obsolete wooden pallets) can lead to resource waste and environmental pollution.
Pallet pellet fuel converts this waste into high-value energy through recycling and reprocessing. This not only solves the problem of waste pallet disposal (reducing landfill volume) but also reduces the raw material cost of pellet fuel. Compared to directly purchasing raw materials such as logs and straw, used pallets are more affordable to acquire (in some cases, they can be recycled at a low price or even free of charge), forming a "waste to energy" cycle.
2. Outstanding environmental attributes: low carbon emissions, in line with policy orientation As a type of biomass energy, pallet pellet fuel has significant environmental advantages and is in line with the global trend of low-carbon energy transformation:
(1) Low carbon emissions: The carbon dioxide released when biomass fuel is burned is essentially the "carbon" absorbed by plants during growth, which can achieve "carbon cycle balance" as a whole. Compared with coal (carbon emissions of about 2400g/kg) and natural gas (carbon emissions of about 1600g/kg), its net carbon emissions are only 1/10~1/5 of fossil energy, which can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
(2) Low pollutant emissions: If the raw materials (pallets) are pre-treated (removing metal nails, oil stains and other impurities), the sulfide, nitrogen oxide and dust emissions generated during combustion are extremely low - for example, sulfide emissions are much lower than coal (the sulfur content of coal is usually 0.5%~3%, and the sulfur content of wooden pallets is almost negligible), and no complex desulfurization and denitrification equipment is required, reducing air pollution.
(3) No harmful residue: The ash content of high-quality pallet pellet fuel after combustion is low (usually ≤3%), and the ash can be returned to the field as organic fertilizer, achieving "zero waste" and avoiding the pollution of soil and water sources by coal slag (containing heavy metals and other harmful substances) produced after coal combustion.
