1. The working principle of wet sawdust biomass pellet processing equipment

Core Forming: Fiber reorganization and densification under mechanical extrusion is a key step in converting sawdust into pellets. The core principle is "high-pressure extrusion + wood fiber self-bonding." Lignin in the sawdust (a natural adhesive that softens under pressure and frictional heat) works together with moisture to tightly bind the fibers, forming pellets with a fixed shape.

Core component: The forming machine—the "ring die pellet machine"—is more adaptable to wet materials and less prone to clogging.

During the extrusion process, intense friction between the sawdust and the inner wall of the die and the surface of the rollers generates frictional heat of 60-90°C. This temperature softens the lignin in the sawdust (the softening point of lignin is approximately 70-100°C). Simultaneously, the moisture forms "liquid bridges" that bind the dispersed fibers together, providing a foundation for subsequent shaping.

How to use the TONY pellet production line to make pellets from wet sawdust?

The process mainly includes the following steps and equipment:

Sawdust pellets, used as biomass pellet fuel or industrial auxiliary material, possess stable physical and chemical properties, offering a user experience far superior to traditional loose wood and coal. Specifically, sawdust pellets have the following characteristics:

1. High energy density and high combustion efficiency

After compacting, sawdust reaches a density of 1.1-1.3 g/cm³ (much higher than the 0.4-0.6 g/cm³ of loose wood), reducing its volume by 6-8 times and generating a calorific value per unit volume of 4200-4800 kcal/kg (comparable to medium-quality coal). Sawdust pellets are also less prone to slagging during combustion. Sawdust pellets boast a thermal efficiency over 30% higher than loose wood, making them suitable for use in equipment such as boilers, fireplaces, and hot air furnaces.

2. Convenient storage and transportation, low cost

The pellets are uniformly shaped (mostly cylindrical, 6-10 mm in diameter and 10-30 mm in length) and have good flowability. They require only one-fifth the storage space of bulk wood of equivalent thermal mass, and there's no concern for insect infestation or mold (the high temperatures during the pelletizing process kill insect eggs and mold), reducing labor and space costs during storage and transportation.

Sawdust pellets can be used directly in automated biomass combustion equipment (such as pellet stoves and biomass boilers). No complex pre-processing (such as chopping or pulverizing) is required; they simply need to be fed at a constant rate through a feeder. Their simple operation makes them suitable for applications such as industrial heating, home heating, and agricultural greenhouse insulation. They can also serve as an auxiliary fuel in biomass power plants.
