I. Equipment Function

Installed upstream of the pulverizer, this machine chips raw logs, branches, slab wood, and large offcuts into uniform wood chips, solving the problem of large wood pieces being unsuitable for direct pulverization:

Large trunks, mixed branches, and construction timber are chipped first to reduce material size;

Uniform chip thickness lowers the load on the subsequent pulverizer, saves electricity, and reduces hammer wear;

Smooth feeding prevents machine jams caused by large pieces, enhancing the stability of the entire production line.

Drum Chipper

Suitable for: Slab wood, plywood waste, bundled branches, and curved mixed timber.

Principle: Cutting via a rotating drum with blades; features a wide feed opening.

Advantages: Large feed opening allows bundled, unsorted branches to be fed without dismantling;

II. Value in Reducing Pellet Production Costs

1. Reduces pulverizer wear and tear

Directly pulverizing large wood pieces subjects hammers to severe impact; pre-chipping extends the lifespan of hammers and screens by over 40%, saving on wear-part costs.

2. Saves electricity and reduces consumption

Smaller wood chips offer less resistance during pulverization, saving 10–20 kWh of electricity per ton across the entire pre-processing stage.

3. Increases total line capacity

Eliminates jams caused by large pieces, enabling continuous production and higher uptime, which spreads out labor and depreciation costs.

4. Handles wet material effectively

Cuts wet branches and mixed timber smoothly; combined with subsequent drying, this significantly boosts raw material pre-processing efficiency.

III. Key Operational Points

Install a stone-removing conveyor screen before the feed inlet to prevent stones from damaging the chipper blades;

Sort out raw materials containing thick mud or sand whenever possible to significantly reduce blade wear;

Sharpen chipper blades regularly; dull blades lead to excessive fines, reduced capacity, and increased power consumption;
