The roller assembly is a critical, high-wear component of the pellet mill; prolonged operation often leads to issues such as wear, slippage, and surface flaking, which directly impact pellet formation rates and production capacity. Regular replacement of the rollers is essential for ensuring stable equipment operation. The replacement process must strictly adhere to safety protocols and standard procedures; a step-by-step approach prevents equipment damage and ensures production stability.
Before replacement, safety preparations are mandatory: disconnect the main power supply and attach a warning tag to prevent live-circuit work. Once the machine has fully stopped and cooled down, open the maintenance access cover and clear away residual material, dust, and debris from the die cavity to create sufficient working space. Simultaneously, inspect the condition of the die to prevent damage during the replacement process. Next, loosen the roller adjustment bolts to maximize the gap between the roller and the ring die, thereby completely relieving the pressure on the rollers.
When dismantling the old rollers, remove the roller retaining plate, locking washer, and locking round nut in sequence, and disconnect the relevant oil lines and adjustment components. Gently tap the end of the roller shaft to smoothly extract the roller assembly. Disassemble the worn rollers, bearings, and seals; clean oil, rust, and impurities from the shaft housing surfaces; and inspect the shaft for wear or deformation. Damaged parts must be replaced immediately to avoid reassembling the unit with defective components.
When installing new rollers, apply specialized grease evenly to the roller bearings and shaft housing. Carefully align and install the new roller assembly, then reinstall the washer, locking ring, and locking nut, tightening them evenly to ensure the roller rotates freely without binding. After assembly, precisely adjust the gap between the die and the roller—targeting a standard clearance of 0.3 to 0.5 mm—and verify that the die rotates manually without friction or abnormal noise. Finally, clean the work area and conduct a no-load test run; once confirmed that the equipment operates smoothly without abnormal vibration, it is ready for normal production. Standardized roller replacement effectively improves pellet quality and extends the equipment's service life.
