During the process of receiving customer inquiries, we found that many customers would ask how to adjust the moisture content when making biomass pellets. How much water needs to be added? This is a cognitive misunderstanding. In fact, everyone may think that water needs to be added to process sawdust and straw powder into pellets. But that's not the case. Next, we will explain this issue.

The production of biomass pellets does not require the addition of water. The moisture in the pellets mainly comes from the moisture of the raw materials. If the moisture content of the raw materials is controlled within the range of 10% to 15%, perfect pellets can be produced. Therefore, no water needs to be added during the production process of the particles. If the moisture content is too high, it will affect the formation of the particles.

Just imagine, if the raw materials do not meet this moisture content requirement in advance, during the granulation process, if the moisture is too high, the granules will be difficult to form and may break or become loose. If the moisture content is too low, the adhesiveness will deteriorate, making it difficult for the raw materials to be squeezed together and also hindering the formation of granules. Therefore, during the granulation process, controlling the moisture content of the raw materials is the key.

How can one determine if the moisture content of the raw materials is appropriate?

1.Generally speaking, the moisture content of raw materials can be judged by touch, as human hands are the most sensitive to moisture. You can pick up a handful of raw materials to see if they can be held into a ball. At the same time, our hands feel moist, cool, and no moisture drops. When we release it, the raw materials can naturally loosen. Such moisture is the most suitable for pressing into granules.

2. There are professional moisture meters. Insert the meter into the raw materials. If the display is within the range of 10% to 15%, you can granulate with confidence.

The moisture issue is quite easy to solve. If your raw materials have a high moisture content and your production tasks are very tight, you can consider our rotary drum dryer. The remaining issue is to obtain a good biomass pellet machine to process biomass pellets. In fact, biomass pellet machine are universal and can press wood chips, straw, rice husks, bamboo chips, etc. It's just that the molds are different.
